New investments in conservation

Texan by Nature was founded by former First Lady, Laura Bush on the idea that our state’s prosperity and quality of life are strongly linked to the conservation of natural resources. With Laura Bush’s leadership, we aim to align the broad interests of conservation groups with business, health care, schools, faith-based organizations, and scientific communities. The Texan by Nature effort is about new investments in conservation that return real benefits for people, prosperity, and natural resources. Investments in conservation come in many forms, including: money, time, effort, land, influence, research, and belief.

Conservation that is Texan-led starts with local individuals, land owners, conservation groups and agencies, and business leaders who recognize that conservation is good business and enhances quality of life for all Texans. Building on the good work that has already been done, Texan by Nature facilitates partnerships between people who use natural resources, the experts who have the know-how to plan and implement realistic conservation practices, and the private sector that provides the funds, people, and visibility to get things done. We are not reinventing the wheel; we are accelerating the wheel to turn out more benefits through cooperative efforts.

Texan by Nature makes a unique positive impact by:

  • Connecting. Our leadership and extensive partner network allow Texan by Nature to facilitate innovative new investments and research in conservation. We connect people and projects with the resources they need to make significant impact in Texan-led conservation.
  • Communicating. Building on the incredible platform that our founder Mrs. Laura Bush has worked so hard to develop, Texan by Nature works to touch the hearts and minds of all Texans, from school children to business leaders, and to tell the stories of our partners’ successes with our programs.
  • Catalyzing. Combining our ability to connect and communicate with nimbleness and enthusiasm, Texan by Nature is able to quickly mobilize resources to support exciting conservation projects in their most critical stages of development.
